Ashtanga Yoga — The Art of Discipline
Monday 9th November | 7pm UK | Live Online | 60 Minutes
Strength. Breath. Commitment. Freedom.
When you hear the word discipline, what comes to mind?
Rules? Restrictions? Pushing yourself harder? Another thing you feel you should be doing?
But what if discipline could be something entirely different?
What if it wasn't about forcing ourselves to be better, but about showing up for ourselves with kindness, consistency and intention?
Join me for a 60-minute exploration of Ashtanga Yoga, a beautiful practice that invites us to discover the relationship between movement, breath, focus and self-awareness.
The word Ashtanga means eight limbs, referring to the eightfold path described in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. These teachings remind us that yoga extends far beyond the physical postures we practise on our mats.
While modern Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is known for its dynamic, structured sequences, its deeper lessons invite us to explore commitment, concentration, self-study and the choices we make in everyday life.
And that's what we'll be discovering together.
What we'll explore
🌿 The Eight Limbs of Yoga — An accessible introduction to the philosophy behind Ashtanga, including how ancient teachings such as Ahimsa (non-harming), Svadhyaya (self-study) and Dharana (concentration) can guide us in modern life.
🧘 Breath-Led Movement — Experience an adapted, accessible introduction to Ashtanga-style flowing sequences, connecting movement with the rhythm of your breath while developing strength, stability and flexibility.
🌬️ The Power of Breath and Focus — Explore how steady breathing and a gentle point of focus (Drishti) can help bring our attention back to the present moment.
🤍 Discipline Without Punishment — Discover how Tapas, often understood as disciplined effort, can become an expression of self-respect rather than another demand we place upon ourselves.
✨ Meditation and Reflection — Finish with a calming practice that invites you to consider what it might mean to show up for yourself consistently, without striving for perfection.
Who is this workshop for?
Whether you're completely new to Ashtanga, curious about its philosophy or already have an established yoga practice, you're warmly welcome.
Although traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa can be physically demanding, this workshop is designed as an accessible introduction, with options and modifications throughout.
You won't be expected to memorise sequences, keep up with anyone else or push beyond what feels comfortable.
This is about exploring the practice, not mastering it in an hour!

A little thought to take away...
Perhaps the greatest discipline we can develop isn't the ability to push ourselves harder.
Perhaps it's the willingness to keep showing up for ourselves, even when life gets messy, our motivation disappears or things don't go to plan.
Because consistency doesn't have to mean perfection. And discipline can be an act of love.
Come as you are, move at your own pace and discover a different way of looking at discipline.
Lots of love,
Beck xx
